About Us
Leon du Plessis Safaris is a family run safari business, born from a passion for adventure and a fierce love of wildlife. Their goal is to share their piece of paradise with you and to offer you a memorable, personalised safari.
The Save Valley Conservancy is one of the largest privately owned wildlife reserve in Africa. Home to the ‘Big Five’ among numerous other species of wildlife. Leon du Plessis Safaris operates mainly on Matendere Ranch, a concession totaling 55,000 acres.
Our area is renowned for magnificent leopard and buffalo trophies. Plains game trophies include Zebra, Kudu, Waterbuck, Sable, Eland, Nyala, Wildebeest, Giraffe, Impala, Bushbuck, Warthog, Bush Pig, Duiker, Klipspringer and Baboon, as well as many nocturnal species. Additionally, there is a prolific game bird population with guinea fowl, francolin and doves being the commonly hunted species.
The varied habitat and protection of our area ensures that the animals continue to thrive. Here, record quality trophies are taken annually from our diverse range of big game and plains game. Nestled in our piece of paradise we have a well-stocked dam with Florida Bass and Bream. The current record is a 12 ½ lb bass caught in August 2008.
We offer self-catering and fully catered accommodation. A wide range of activities such as drives, walks, fishing, birding, and hunting can be arranged. While we are open year-round, our suggested hunting months are March through early November.
Our concession is accessible by light aircraft or road transfer via Harare International Airport. Estimated travel times are a 1 hr flight or a 410km drive (approx. 4.5 hrs).
Leon du Plessis Safaris tailors each safari to suit your needs. If we are unable to provide the trophies you would like at Matendere Ranch, we will call on our extensive list of contacts to provide you with the best selection of trophies the region has to offer.
It is our mission to give you the safari of your lifetime!
